Wendell Eugene Dorsett

March 25, 1945 — April 15, 2019

Nassau

Wendell Eugene Dorsett Age 74 Years of #40 Bougainvillea Boulevard, South Beach Estates completed his final repairs,
at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Monday, April 15, 2019.

Wendell was born at Nassau, New Providence, the Bahamas on Sunday, March 25, 1945 to parents Wilton Eugene and
Myrtle Dorsett (nee Strachan). He was the first of nine children in this blessed union.

Wendell's parents nurtured him to be a God fearing young man and ensured that spiritually he was guided with having
good ethics and to be respectful to others. They made sure Sunday school at Saint Barnabas was very important,
where he later became an altar boy.

His early education began by attending Saint Barnabas Anglican School and later Western Junior and Senior Schools.
As a young boy growing up his parents sought additional guidance by arranging for Wendell, along with his younger
brother Kermit, to spend their summer holidays attending a summer camp for boys at Whale's Cay under the care of a
relative named Roy Hepburn. The camp equipped him with many outdoor skills which he later used in life.

After completion of school his parents encouraged him to take up a trade in Carpentry and he became a skilled carpenter.
After a few years of carpentry he realized this trade was not his calling. He sought employment in the hotel industry which
led him to West End, Grand Bahama at the Jack Tar Hotel; after a few years he returned to New Providence. His tenure in
the hotel industry was extended to Paradise Island Casino, Balmoral Beach, Nassau Beach Hotel, South Ocean, Ocean Club
and lastly The Cove at Paradise Island where he retired.

His strength and character were admirable and he held himself to the highest esteem. In his younger years he was known
to be a well-dressed individual. In 1972, Wendell fell in love and was married to Ms. Estella Woodside. However the union
ended in divorce with no children.

Wendell worked as a trucker, a public service bus driver and also a neighborhood mechanic, which became his passion.
During his later years, Wendell enjoyed travelling back and forth between Florida and Nassau, visiting his children and
siblings who affectionately called him Papa. In Nassau his friends knew him as Slaughter which you can't spell without laughter.

As he came up in age, he began to get sick and was diagnosed with kidney failure and sought treatment in 2017.
Wendell returned to Nassau on November 1st, 2018 for his sister, Genieve's funeral and he never returned to the United States.

Wendell was ill when he returned home.  He was lovingly cared for by his sister, Sharon and her children. As the days went by
he became weaker and his last wish was to return to the United States for better health treatment but was unable to as;
circumstances did not permit him.

On Thursday 11th April 2019, Wendell complained about his chest and finally relented to see a doctor. He was taken to the clinic
but was sent home by the doctor. Saturday evening, on April 13th 2019, an ambulance had to be called for him to be taken to
Princess Margaret Hospital where he was admitted on Sunday.

So much fire, hard work and passion could not be contained in an earthly body for long. His body could not keep up with the
dynamic vigorous cheerful soul it inhabited. On Monday 15th April 2019, around 12 noon Wendell's last words to his niece was
that he "was sleepy". Later that day at 3:56pm, after living a full and accomplished life he ever so slowly bowed to the onset of
infirmity, his life book was closed on well spent years as he passed into eternity.  He lived, he laughed, he loved and he left.

May his soul rest in peace and rise in glory.
