Susanna Delores Clark-Thompson Age 79 Years of Alice and Maude Streets,
The Pond Stitched her last basket and created her final Straw Bag at the
Princess Margaret Hospital on Saturday, October 29, 2011.

Susanna was born in the quiet village of the Pond Nassau, New Providence,
The Bahamas on Sunday, May 01, 1932. She was so special to her parents,
that she was given the name of her father's mother and her mother "Susanna Leanora".
Tragedy soon began to hit this small family when she lost her mother at the tender age of 8 years.
Her mother was only 24 years old. For the next 4 years she would enjoy a special bonding with her
father who spoiled her rotten and affectionately called her his little "stinkins".

They could be seen everywhere over the island on his horse and buggy. She was so attach to
him that at night she would pin(with clothes pins)her night gown to him because she learned
that he checked the horses at night which meant that he left her alone. During this time they
also travelled to the US to visit her grandmother Ma Susanna who lived to be 110 years.
She would soon be seen playing on her Aunt Maggie's porch with her nephew of the same age as her.
We think on this trip she caught a "travel bug".  Those fondest memories of her childhood came to an
end when she lost her dad at the age of 12. After this she grew up with her maternal grandmother
Maude Forbes along with the assistance of her uncle James Smith; they both considered Susanna
as a replacement for the loss of their daughter and sister.

By her late teens she met and married Herbert Thompson of Nassau. This union produced
their first child, a daughter Barbara Mae, but sadly she died on her sixth birthday.
Susanna later had two sons Terrance and Anthony and finally she had another baby girl she
named Thelma. Thereafter she became widowed.

Life became a challenge providing for 3 children, this led her to doing housekeeping work
for numerous wealthy vacationers with her cousin Geraldine Darville on Cat Cay. She also
spent many seasons working on Cable Beach. Susanna became very industrious, wherever
she had a moment she found herself embroidering straw change purses and cluthes.
This linked her with ladies like Marjorie Arnette and Sylvia Knowles She soon became
self-employed in straw and souvenirs business.

Around 1957 she met Kay Fairweather, a missionary of Jehovah's Witnesses from Australia.
Susanna began studying the bible and was soon seen going to the meetings on the back of the
scooter (with the white hair lady). In 1960 she made her most important commitment to serve
Jehovah God for the rest of her life and she was baptized where she joined in with the Centreville
Congregation, preaching and teaching about Jehovah's promises to whomever would listen.
She was always willing to offer up her home for Theocratic activities. She often talked about how
the congregations had grown. She has enjoyed the loving fellowship of this worldwide Christian
Brotherhood where she made many lifetime friendships .

Susanna also enjoyed providing for her family and others, she also could be seen sitting on her
porch caressing her pets, there you saw her love for animals. Music was also an enjoyment for her,
you could hear the music of all genres (especially classical music) echoing throughout her home on
any given day. Yes Susanna did catch the travel bug. Throughout her life she found herself on the go,
most times for work with friends like Millicent Hudson (deceased) or for pleasure to faraway places
like Greece and turkey. Such trips like cruises, afforded her the opportunity to do other things she
truly enjoyed like "Dressing Up", taking pictures, sightseeing and making jokes. She also enjoyed
reading, entertaining and buying fine things.

Through it all, most of her life was troubled with many aliments and difficulties.
The past few years especially became a daily challenge. She battled with pneumonia
in 2007 and she was helped to overcome it; however, it severely hampered her memory
and her mental sharpness for the past 4 years. But as she always said- "He who put his
faith and trust in Jehovah will never be confounded".
