Samuel James Gilbert Age 66 Years of #167 Tucker Road, Big Pond Subdivision,
passed from this earthly walk, on Thursday, February 17, 2000 at his residence.
He was born on Friday, March 17, 1933 in the beautiful settlement, of Devil's Point,
Cat Island, Bahamas.
Big Sam as he was affectionately called, obtained his early education at
the Cat Island All –Age School. There-after he left to work on the contract
in Georgia, after many years he returned to Nassau, to seek employment.
He was employed in the construction field and the Bahamas Telecommunication
Co-operation, as a Security Guard.
In 1958 he married Ellen Smith, making her his wife and life long partner of forty years.
This union was blessed with twelve children. Big Sam was a man who was respected by
all who came in contact with him. He never criticized anyone, but instead will encourage
others to believe in themselves and strive for their goals.
Big Sam was a proud and faithful member, of many Lodges such as Aurora Lodge #810,
Curfew Lodge #1162 and St. John's Lodge #3, where he held the positions such as, Chaplin and Secretary.
Sam is preceded in death by his:
Father: Ezekiel Gilbert;
Mother: Sarah Johnson;

Eight Sons: Rodger Sr., Mark Sr., Theodore, Mitchell, Patrick Sr.,
Arnold, Desmond Sr. and Christopher Gilbert;
Four Daughters: Mrs. Ann Lightbourne, Nurse Merlice Gilbert-Rolle,
Mrs. Clarice Deveaux and Sheree Gilbert;
Ten Grand Sons: Rodger Jr., Ramon, Mark Jr., Kendrick,
James, Tarran, Patrick Jr., Rashad, Desmond Jr., and Ucal Jr.;
Four Grand Daughters: Shantell, Cindy, Michelle and Anishka;
Great Grand: Symone Heild;
Adopted Children: Shanda Sargent, Alice Greenslade, Coralee Ferguson
and Trevor Culmer;
Three Sons-in-law: Brian Lightbourne, James Rolle and Ucal Deveaux Sr.;
Four Daughters-in-law: Elizabeth, Nurse Monique, Delcina and Emily Gilbert;
Two Sisters: Virginia and Pearlean Johnson;
Brother: Rev. Benjamin Gibson;
Two Brothers-in-law: Cedric Curry and Roscoe Francis;
Two Sisters-in-law: Eldora Curry and Agatha Francis;
Other loving family and friends.
