Roy Oral Lockhart

November 10, 1927 — March 16, 2002

Captain Roy Oral "Dad" Lockhart Age 74 Years of Soldier Road, 
set his final course and sailed into eternity, at the Princess Margaret Hospital
on Saturday, March 16, 2002.


He was the first child born to the late, Osborne Lockhart and Marion
Poitier at Mangrove Cay, Andros, Bahamas on Thursday, November 10, 1927.


Captain Roy, was taken to Ragged Island, Bahamas by his father,
he was cared for and nurtured by his grandmother, Savalita Lockhart.
He was educated at the Ragged Island All-Age School. At the age of fourteen,
he joined the ranks of some of the country's most able seamen. 
He was well trained under the hands of many Master Sea Captains.
His experience took him on many voyages to Cuba, Haiti and the United States of America.
He soon joined the ranks of "A" licensed Captains from Ragged Island.


At a tender age he accepted the Lord and was baptized. Soon afterwards,
he fell in love with the beautiful Andrey Laverne Pintard.
This couple was united in Holy Matrimony on Wednesday, March 05, 1952.
They produced nine children, five sons and four daughters.


In 1966 he relocated his family to New Providence. He worked on many
mail boats with his father-in-law, the late Captain John Pintard and also
Captained many mail boats, including: The Noel Roberts, The Church Bay,
the Johnette Walker and the North Cat Island Special. He retired in 1999,
he was awarded the Queen's certificate of Honour on Tuesday, October 23, 2001.


The Radiance of this "Topaz of A Gem" will always glow in the hearts of his:
Wife: Audrey Lockhart;
Children: Janet Nixon (Olrice), Roslyn Lockhart, Anna Hall, Royaural Simeon,
Lydia Jones (Leroy), David, Philip, Mark and Elroy Lockhart;

Grand Children: Leterah and Jonathan Munnings, Shanette, Treniqua and Cherise Nixon,
Garvin Hall, Audra Campbell, Crystal and Crista Strachan, Royaural, Phillipa, Mark Jr.,
Elroy Jr., Philip Jr., and Anson Lockhart;

One: Great Grand Child;
Four Brothers: William and Osbourne Lockhart, Neville McPhee and Christopher Wallace;
Five Sisters: Barbara McKinney, Yvonne Miller, Louise Moxey, Rowena Munroe and Maudline Maycock;
Two Uncles: Lorenzo Lockhart and Fred Strachan;
Two Daughters-in-law: Pretina and Cleo Lockhart;
Other loving family and friends.
