Richard Whitfield "Witty" Thompson Age 50 Years of Israel Street,
Adelaide Village passed from this walk of life, and entered eternity at
the Princess Margaret Hospital on Monday, July 07, 2008.
Witty as he was called by his family, was born in Nassau, New Providence,
The Bahamas on Friday, March 21, 1958 he was the fourth child born to
Mr. Sidney B. and Mrs. Elma M. Thompson {Nee Johnson}.
At the age of five, Richard relocated along with the family to the picturesque island of Eleuthera.
He spent his early years growing up in the settlement of Savannah Sound, Eleuthera
where he attended the Savannah Sound All Aged School.
As a child his sense of humor and fearless spirit earned him the nick name "Witty".
From an early age "Witty" was very close to his father aka "Dad" and would accompany him fishing,
crabbing and farming. It was no wonder when "Witty" completed school; he continued to work
along in the family's business, The Esquire Lounge Restaurant and bar and on weekends drove Taxi.
Reserved yet confident, "Witty" was a, quiet, candid and serious young man.
His natural muscular built may have made some persons a bit intimidated,
yet for those whom he allowed to share his personal space, he bought much
laughter and excitement.
He simply had a no-nonsense and non-pretentious personality leaving little
room for anyone to speculate about his point of view.
"Witty" moved to Nassau in 1988 and continued diving and fishing as a hobby.
His carpentry skill and enjoyment of the trade found him employment as a Carpenter.
He was a well kept and charming man who knew how to engage and enjoy life.
"Witty" true heart was for family and on Tuesday, February 17, 1998 married Katherine Jessie Smith.
Due to risk because of his illness, "Witty" could no longer dive or work on heights.
He then sought employment as a Security Officer and most recently employed at the Esso Service Station
"Witty" finally understood on Saturday, July 05, 2008 that God loved him and wanted to
give him the greatest gift of all – Eternal Life with Him. Witty humbly asked the lord
into his heart and received Him as Lord and Savior.
