Richard William Greene

Richard William Greene Age: 81 Years of #53 Yorkshire Street, Cable Beach 
passed away peacefully, at his residence on Tuesday, May 07, 2024.

Richard was born at Nassau, New Providence, The Bahamas on Saturday, October 24, 1942.
to Mr. Robert Greene and Ms. Nellie Donaldson. He then moved to Andros for a while where 
he was raised by his grand-aunt Rozena, better known as Tita whom he affectionately called Mum. 
He attended the government all age public school in Stanyard Creek, Andros and from a young age 
he exhibited remarkable qualities of leadership and tenacity, as he was then taken out of school in 
the eighth grade and brought back to Nassau to help his mother raise his eight younger siblings. 

His mother, who was a cook, taught him the importance of pouring love into every dish he prepared 
and that is how he continued to show his love for others. In his late teens he attended evening classes 
in which he was able to attain his GED. Although he did not receive a mid-level or high school education, 
Richard was determined to not let his past dictate his future. It was his grandaunt, "Tita", who ensured 
that he was afforded the opportunity to pursue a college education.

Richard went on to further his education in which he attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, 
Tennessee where he obtained his degree in Civil Engineering in 1968. After the formation of Water and 
Sewage Corporation in July 1976, he returned home and joined the corporation in 1978. In October 1981 
he was promoted to Acting Deputy Chief Engineer and in 1990 he was promoted to Deputy General Manager 
and again to Acting General Manager in 1999 until his retirement in October 2002, after 24 years of exemplary 
leadership, management and service.

Beyond his professional achievements, Richard was a loving husband and father. He found immense joy in 
cooking for his family and friends. In his leisure time he enjoyed playing checkers and dominoes with his 
friends and once upon a time was a champion player.

Three Sisters: Melvern Brown (Don), Patricia Minus and Meltoria Minus-Rolle (Berkley); 
Numerous: Nephews and Nieces;
Two Aunts: Iris Donaldson and Coralee Deveaux;
Mother-in-law: Dorothy Cox;
Four Brothers-in-law: Frank, Arron, Trevor and Michael Cox;
Five Sisters-in-law: Marilyn Edwards, Pastor Karen Murphy (Sheldon), Carol Williams, 
Gina Deveaux (Ryan) and Anita Cox;
Other Loving Family and Friends Including: Garnet Ferguson Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 
Lawrance and Julius Chisholm, Philip Swaby, Vanru Hepburn, Alvion Greene and Small.
