Richard Clement "Dickey" Ellis Age 76 Years of Kortwright Street,
Matthew Town Inagua, The Bahamas, was called into eternity on Saturday, August 01, 1998.
Dickey was born at South Caicos, Turks and Caicos Islands on Tuesday, January 31, 1922.
He received his early education at C. D. Powell All Age School and was trained in carpentry
by his uncle Gustavous Ellis. As a young man, Richard migrated to Inagua, Bahamas to find
employment and accepted a position with Erickson Salt Company, now Morton Bahamas Limited
on the carpentry staff and after several promotions, became manager of the stock room,
a position he held until he retired on Saturday, January 31, 1987.
It was at Inagua where he fell in love and married Mary also of South Caicos. In South Caicos,
Richard was a dedicated Methodist, a member of the Boys Brigade under the leadership of
Fr. Hugh Sherlock, a member of Phoenix Lodge of the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows
and a member of the south Caicos Cricket Club. He was an excellent guitar player and a master of the trumpet.
Richard continued his civic involvement in Inagua, where he became a founding member of
the Inagua Methodist Church, a local preacher, treasure, class leader and congregational steward,
captain of the Boys Brigade, member of the Turks Island Benevolent and Savings Association,
leader of the Inagua Brass Band and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Inagua.
Although he served all these organizations with distinction, he was deeply
