Philip Charlton "Phil" Burrows Age 51 Years of #13 Windward Road, Imperial Park
Sea Breeze Estates completed his life's journey, at his residence on Tuesday, November 15, 2011.
He was born at Nassau, New Providence, The Bahamas on Saturday, January 09, 1960.
Philip acquired many nicknames during his lifetime including, Phil, Bussy and Smoky.
Phil, as he was affectionately called, was the eldest son of four boys. Having lost his father,
Allan, at the tender age of three, he grew up hearing that he was the man of the family.
This responsibility Phil took very seriously and never ceased trying to be the
nucleus that kept his siblings together, especially his brothers.
Phil began his quest for education at the Yellow Elder Primary School.
He later attended C. H. Reeves Junior High and graduated from Aquinas College in 1977.
Subsequent to his graduation from high school he pursued studies at Success Training College
and Continuing Education at the College of the Bahamas. Additionally, he further enhanced his
knowledge in tourism by completing a Bahama Host course.
Upon completion of high school Phil sought employment in the Tourism Industry, and was
thus gainfully employed at Zemis as a waiter. Having acquired a love for the hotel industry,
Phil ventured to the exclusive Lyford Cay Resort (The Club), where he worked for 22 years.
During his years of employment at The Club, where started as a Bar Waiter, Phil eventually
was promoted to the position of a Bartender. Some years later he advanced to Switchboard Operator
and then Front-desk Clerk. His ultimate peak landed him the position of Accounts Clerk
in the Accounting Office. Phil enjoyed his upward mobility at this resort and always spoke
highly of his elevation.
Being an ardent, dedicated worker Phil also received several awards for
his commitment to positive work ethics and quality service - including a
Long-term Service Award and a Merit Award while employed at the Club.
He was also awarded Employee of the Month at Wyndham earlier this year.
After his stint with The Club came to an abrupt end, Phil again expanded his hotel expertise
in the hotel industry and was employed at the Wyndam Resort & Casino as a Slot Attendant
where he remained until his demise.
Phil was also an avid reader; some of his favourite authors were Stephen King,
Robert Ludlum and Mark Twain. He always said you get a better understanding
of a story by reading the book, rather than watching it in a movie.
Another one of Phil's greatest hobbies was cooking, which he did exceptionally well.
He was a master chef and will be sorely missed for his great cooking skills.
Phil also liked offering surprises and had given Rudell quite a few memorable ones
during their time together. He also enjoyed travelling and shopping. Additionally,
Phil had an intense love for family socials and always enjoyed himself immensely.
Amongst Phil's innumerable strong qualities, was his passion for always being well-groomed
and his dedication to punctuality; he thrived on being on time. These traits Phil exhibited
moments prior to his sudden passing; as he had already prepared himself for that same workday.
On Saturday, January 09, 1988 Phil married the love of his life whom he affectionately
called Rudell, and always boasted that he was the only person allowed to call her by that name.
He held a strong conviction to the biblical instruction "till death do us part" and did just that.
Phil would always remind Rudell that he should receive two gifts on the
mentioned date 'birthday and an anniversary', which he usually got.
Rudell is going to certainly miss those evenings when she arrives home
to their secretly unlocked doors, reminding Phil to be more careful.
Not to mention the freshly cooked meals prepared awaiting her on Phil's days off.
No more would she hear those familiar words when he came home from his late-night
shift saying "Rudell I know you are sleeping, but I have to tell you this."
Phil never ceased to declare that he had a personal relationship with his Maker.
Rudell can also recall seeing him on many occasions kneeling at his bedside
offering prayers to God, as well as verbally acknowledging God's manifold
blessings towards him. There were also times when Phil could be heard
singing familiar gospel songs like "Never Would Have Made It without You;"
and then when Rudell looked at him amazed, he would smile and say
"yeah you think I did not know that aye."
