Mario Ricadro "Mo, Gunny" Markland

January 14, 1973 — November 20, 2009

Nassau

Mario Ricardo "Mo, Gunny" Markland Age 36 Years of #10 Myrton Avenue,
off Farrington Road Chippingham was called to a fuller life at the
Princess Margaret Hospital on Friday, November 20, 2009.

Mario was born at Nassau, New Providence, the Bahamas on
Sunday, January 14, 1973. He was the last child and the baby of the family.

A studious child, Mario began his early education at Oakes Field Primary School
and T.G. Glover Jr. His secondary education was furthered at the Government High School
where he graduated in 1990. Not content with just a high school education,
Mario attended Bahamas Technical & Vocational Institute (BTVI) where
he was able to become a certified Mason. In February 1993 Mario secured
employment with the Bahamas Government, more specifically The Ministry of Public Works as a mason.

After having successfully navigated through the waters of education and gainful employment,
Mario then turned his thoughts to love and family. In August of 1995 he met the girl who was
fated to be the love of his life, his wife and the mother of his children, Latoya nee McKenzie.
Their union produced three children: Mianasseh, DiMario and Marasiya. Mario was a man
who loved his family dearly and cared for them in every possible way. In this love,
he was outspoken and never hesitated to tell anyone and every one of his wife and beautiful children.
It can also be said that where his family was concerned, he always rose to the occasion.

In 2006, Mario gave his life to the Lord. He was a member of the Temple Fellowship Family
and served on the Usher Board. He was a very thoughtful and insightful child of God and often
mentored to and counseled many of his friends and family. A true confidant, his listening ear
and wise words will certainly be missed by all those who have turned to him during their time of need.

Mario was also a Junkanoo enthusiast who was a part of the steering committee for
The Roots Junkanoo Group. Such was his love for Junkanoo that he even had plans
to write a children's book on the subject entitled: "Jimbo Junkanoo: Yes I Can"

Mario had battled hypertension for a number of years. This eventually led to kidney failure,
his positive attitude and outlook on life never dimmed in spite of his illness.

The Radiance of this "Garnet of A Gem" will always glow in the hearts of his:
