Louise Violet Johnson-Bosfield Age 103 Years of Karl Road, off Claridge Road
slipped away quietly, at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
She was born at James Cistern Eleuthera, The Bahamas on Monday, March 14, 1921.
Louise received her early education at the settlement all age school. During her early
school days, she loved drama and signing taking part in the school recitals having to
always stand on the desk because of her short statue. Louise was her Papa's "baby girl",
her days away from school and church was spent on the farm with him and working in
her brother the late Hubert (Money King) Johnson grocery store and taking care of
nieces and nephews. Louise looked forward to school summer breaks when she traveled
to the settlement of Gregory Town spending time with her cousin the late Mary Young.
Louise left Eleuthera at the age of Nineteen to attend the Dundas School of Hospitality
Mackey Street Nassau, where she completed three courses in hospitality namely: housekeeping,
table service, pantry custodian. Upon completion she obtained employment at various hotels
throughout Nassau including the Old Fort Montagu Hotel and Lowes Paradise Island.
Louise was very talented and crafty, like many family island women, she made and provided
beautiful native {straw, shell) items for vendors and tourist.
In 1950, Louise met the late Christopher J Bosfield a staunch Catholic and
former Assistant Superintendent Boys Industrial School. That union raised and parented
eleven children: Eugene "Smiley Kemp", Rosalie Moss, Cecil, Bradley and Christopher Bosfield Jr.
who are all deceased: Mark Anthony Bosfield (Retired Sales Manager Bahamas Blenders),
Ellen Major (Retired Senior Nursing Officer), Albertha Adderley (Retired Senior Pay Mistress
Atlantis Hotel), Clement Bosfield (Retired Superintendent Bahamas Customs), Philip Bosfield
(Retired Captain Bahamasair) and Karen Bosfield-Leadon (Relationship Manager RBC Royal Bank).
Louise and her late husband worked tirelessly to provide the best private education,
sound foundation and a stable Christian home of faith and Godly principles for their
children always encouraging them to put God first. Christopher was a staunch Roman Catholic,
1951 Louise being the submissive and devoted wife, converted to Catholicism attending
St Thomas Moore Parish, later moving to Holy Family Parish 1968 with her family.
Louise loved and served her God with commitment, complete trust, and confidence,
she was a faithful member in many ministries of the faith community: Parish Council,
Legion of Mary, a founding member of the Senior Choir and Ladies Auxiliary. Until age eighty,
she along with deceased members Violet Roxx, Ada Kelly, Hazel Hamilton and Viena McKenzie
united for their daily fifteen-minute walk at 6:30 a.m. to morning Mass. Louise attended Mass
at church celebrating her 103rd, birthday dressed in her Ladies Auxiliary uniform.
Louise had a very active, and impressive life with a robust personality for community building,
front line politics, civic organizations, and gaming. She was an active member of the Cancer Society
of the Bahamas, prior to her demise she was the longest surviving cancer patient in the Bahamas
surviving breast cancer 1973, The Bahamas Senior Citizen Committee, and various groups of her
beloved Free National Movement Party. After church, political, or civic group meetings she would
often collect food items for the less fortunate in her neighborhood. One of Louise's favorite words
"There is a time and place for everything under the sun and my God know my heart",
she would often use those words to justify her reason for gaming (numbers game, lottery),
she was one of the biggest advocate for it to be legalized, we believe this helped in keeping her mind so sharp.
Louise loved her Eleuthera heritage, she was an active member of the Johnson-Bethel
Family Reunion Committee. In her younger years she travelled to every family reunion
held in Eleuthera and the United States of America sharing knowledge of the family roots
with younger members while encouraging positive family life and togetherness.
She attended and was honored at the July 2024 reunion held at Epworth Hall, Nassau.
Louise was also a member of the Bosfield Family Reunion where she was honored as
the eldest active living member at the Nassau reunion held 2014 in Nassau.
Louise was an avid traveler who traveled the world. She traveled by boat cruising the Caribbean
Islands, and by plane to various destinations: Holy Land, United States and Bahama Islands.
Over the past five years Louise physical body slowed down and she was not able to attend
the various meetings or visit family and friends, therefore she used the telephone to keep
up to date on activities and conversation. She was able to dial telephone numbers and
conversate with a sound mind up to September 2024.
October 2024 Louise was admitted to hospital for one week diagnosed with pneumonia
and fluid retention throughout her body. She recovered well and was discharged to home care.
Even though her legs were very weak, she was able to feed herself, make assisted steps,
and hold conversations. Christmas 2024 was very memorable as her children and grandchildren
visited and shared conversation, food, and laughs. As the family gathered, she told them
"The best thing is love, I love all of you and I am glad you came to see me, because this year
or another year I will be gone, I love you all and I must tell you the truth from my heart"
then she burst into laughter hugging and kissing. Louise continued to pray out loud asking
her God for forgiveness, peace and not to allow her suffering, she fought with faith,
fearlessness and fortitude knowing that God would not deny her request.
Early morning January 6th, 2025 her son Philip (caregiver, husband, lover) who slept with her
each night realized she was breathing heavy and non-responsive, called the ambulance as it
appeared, she slipped into a coma. The fluid and pneumonia fiercely entered he body again.
Doctors tried various procedures, with no significant improvement. January 14th, 2025 Philip
made his daily evening visit to the hospital, he fed her at 7:00 p.m., she gripped his hand as
he kissed her with hope to return another day and left her in the care of her grandson Jovan
and his wife Martina. Jovan while praying and holding her in his arms realized she started
gasping for breath, he alerted the medical staff as Louise took her last breath and slipped
peacefully and serenely away to be with her Lord.
Eternal Rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May her soul and the souls of the faithfully departed through the Mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
