Judy Myrtis Thompson- Clumer

December 7, 1947 — October 31, 2015

Palmetto Point

Judy Myrtis Thompson-Culmer Age 67 Years of North Palmetto Point Eleuthera,
The Bahamas prepared her final meal, at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Saturday, October 31, 2015.

She was born at North Palmetto Point Eleuthera, The Bahamas on Sunday, December 07, 1947.
Judy grew up a carefree child, enjoying life and nature with her childhood friend and neighbour,
Patsy Thompson-Grant. Her love for life didn't stop. Whenever she was asked to go fishing on a boat,
she was ready with her lines and bait. When she couldn't find anyone to take her in the boat,
she and Sheryl would go on the rocks with their lines. She would ever haul during the jack season.
She knew "cleanliness is next to Godliness". She displayed this.  Her yard was immaculate at all times.
Her roses were the envy of all. She was not afraid to push her own lawnmower and weed her own yard.

She grew up in a large family, where selfishness was not a part of their life. Her Eldest sister,
Evelyn took the mother's role while momma was out working and this created a stronger bond.

Judy received her early education at the Palmetto Point all Age School, now, Emma E. Cooper
Primary School. It was her dream to be a nurse, upon completion of school but that didn't happen.

Judy fell in love and married the brother-in-law of her sister, Bertha, out of the union came one daughter,
Carolyn Rochell. A daughter that she loved unconditionally and thought nothing was too good for her.

Judy was not afraid of hard work, this was instilled in her as a child, by her Late mother (Momma).
Judy worked up to her last. Even when she was hospitalized, her mind was still on making certain
that Mr. Frank's house was being taken care of. She gained employment with the late Cornel Bryan
at the age of sixteen, she then moved on to the Potlatch Club, Banks Road, Balara Bay, Ms. Taylor and
Mrs. Mallory & Mr. Frank, where she worked for over 25 years.

Judy knew the true vales of life – God, family and community.

She was an active member of Wesley Methodist Church, Palmetto Point. She served as President
and Secretary of the Women's Ministry. She was a member of the choir. She served as an Assistant
Treasurer for the church. She served on the decoration committee. She was a leader of one of the
apostle groups. She was on the worship leaders and the scripture readers teams. And she worked
with the kitchen crew-Mrs. Jenny, Mrs. Ella, Mrs. Iris, Mrs. Mirriam, (an inseparable crew)
who had a soup kitchen that fed the elderly weekly.

Despite, her coming from a large family, her family extended beyond, those we knew.
She gave unselfishly. Judy was by the side of all those that needed support. She was what her
brother Joseph described her as "the Samson Post" of the family. A day didn't pass, when she
didn't speak to her siblings and friends. Her two elder sisters were called daily, to ensure that
all was well with them and their families. There were also follow-up calls at lunch time and at night,
just to say good night. When she couldn't reach them by phone, she would drive to satisfy her mind
that all was well. Even when they were cross waters, she still stayed in touch.

Her community at large was her extended family. When she was called upon, there was no hesitation.
She took daily walks, with the walking partners. She played on the volleyball team.
She assisted the homecoming with the preparation, cooking and serving of food.
She served on the softball association committee, in the concession booth. She assisted the elderly
and needy in the community. All this was done with love, as the love of God illuminated through her.
She also volunteered with the Cancer Society, Eleuthera Branch, whether it was preparing the thrift shop,
by sorting of goods, selling tickets and merchandise or cooking for the fundraisers.
She participated in the walks and was the winner of a bicycle, one year.

She was a part of a women travelling group, who rendered moral support to each other.
The group comprised of: Sheryl Fax, Ann Bethel, Genieve Bethel, Ella Sands, Angie Eldon,
Mirriam Knowles, Bertha Culmer (sister), Phyllis Culmer (deceased) and Marie Stuart (deceased).
Annually, they would plan and take a trip.

What a fight is was to get her to the Doctor, knowing she wasn't well, not wanting to depend on anyone.
Despite, her keys being hid, she found them and drove to check on Stacey, who ensured use to ensure
that she had breakfast and took her medication while in Eleuthera. This proved her love for her family
members and independence, in spite of her illness. She was surrounded by family and friends that truly
loved and supported her with every Doctor's and treatment visit. Denise was there, ensuring the ambulance
arrived on time for her treatment. Daily, Denise and/or Sally was at the hospital ensuring her comfort and
attending to her every need. Her last cruise, August of this year, which she eagerly anticipated and didn't
want to end brought her much joy. She was a picture of perfect health, while on the cruise. Her smile beamed
and touched hearts of the other Patients, Doctors, Nurses, Ambulance driver and Radiologist while she was
hospitalized. Her body got weary and she told those family members that surrounded her at the end of her
struggle "I am tied". She fought her fight, she finished her course, her crown, YES, HER CROWN, of righteous,
which was so earned, she's now wearing. We celebrate with you and those that have gone before you, as you
entered your eternal home, safe in the arms of Jesus.
