Jane Willamae "Ms Mae" Farrington-Cambridge

November 22, 1935 — November 19, 2009

Hatchet Bay

Jane Willamae "Ms. Mae" Farrington-Cambridge Age 73 Years
of Cambridge Street, Hatchet Bay Eleuthera Bahamas was called to a
fuller life at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Thursday, November 19, 2009.

She was born at Hatchet Bay Eleuthera, Bahamas on Friday, November 22, 1935.
She was the first daughter of Luther and Susan Farrington. This beautiful baby
girl was christened Jane Willamae for her paternal great grandmother, Jane Farrington.
She received her early education at home where she was nurtured and trained by her
mother who instructed her academically as well as spiritually. She was well versed in
the Word of God as Paul said to Timothy, "That from a child thou has known the
holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."

Her formal education continued at the former Hatchet Bay School under the renowned
educator Rev. Dr. P. A. Gibson. At age fourteen she obtained her school leaving Certificate
and was subsequently appointed a monitor and later a Pupil teacher.

Upon completion of her formal education she was gainfully employed by
families of the Naval Base. Throughout her career, Mae – as she was affectionately called
– received many awards and certificates for being a valuable and dedicated employee.
In gratitude, her employer The Musselwhite's allowed her to accompany them to
Winter Haven, Fl., as caregiver for their children, where she remained for three months.
She also worked at the Harrisville Store as chief clerk in the Dry Goods Department.
Very early in her childhood, Mae was bereft of her three brothers, Prince, Dennis and Lambert.
She was left as an only child, which endeared her to her father's heart. In years to come,
God blessed Mae's parents once again with children and she took on the role of mother
to all of them she loved them. She loved them intently and this love progressed and
continued through the years. They reciprocated her love, and each one held her in very high esteem.

Mae grew up in a Christian home where a family altar of prayer and Bible reading
was a way of life for them. Hence, she acknowledged Jesus Christ as her Lord and
Saviour and was baptized at age twelve.

Mae was a beautiful and quiet young lady who attracted the attention of a
debonair young gentleman named Wellington Cambridge. She fell in love with his meek,
gentle spirit and he wooed and courted her romantically. They were joined in
holy matrimony on Monday, August 17, 1959 this happy couple lived true to their vows,
to honour, love and respect each other until death. "Red", as many of his
friends affectionately called him was Mae's close companion and friend.
He served her with love, patience and dignity.

Being trained and nurtured in the ways of the Lord from childhood by her Godly parents,
Deacon Luther and Rev. Susan Farrington, Mae acknowledged the Lord Jesus Christ as
her Saviour and was baptized at age twelve. She was received into the fellowship at St. Stephen's,
where she commenced service in the youth ministry. Her wisdom and knowledge of the
Word was taught in the Sunday school. Many of her little pupils still remember the song,
"The Master Has Come Over Jordan, said Hannah the mother one day;" which is in reference
to the Bible story of "Jesus Blesses the Children." She was chosen as Sunday school teacher
and secretary. Her love for God was evident in the service she rendered dutifully.
She served faithfully for a number of years as a choir member, President of St. Stephen's
Mission Circle, director and producer of the Easter, Christmas, and Father's Day concerts.
She was active in the Baptist Training Union (B.T.U.) and Youth for Christ, each of which
was a ministry designed to encourage and develop a meaningful discipleship for Christ.
She attended many conventions regularly in Nassau representing her church's Sunday school.
The annual conventions of the Bethel Baptist Association presented a great opportunity for
Sister Mae, accompanied by her mother Rev. Susan Farrington, to further give witness to the
saving power of Jesus Christ and to fellowship with other believers as they met periodically
throughout The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos islands. As a prayer leader,
Sister Mae conducted prayer service and Mission Circle meeting. She preached the
Word of God with faith and a good conscience. Faithful and diligent in her department,
Sister Mae served the Lord with gladness. She would be the first to arrive at church,
open up the doors and get the service started on any given night. An active participant in
Daystar Hope Ministry she would encourage the other sisters to attend and keep it going
even when the leader, Rev. Dean was sick or out of town.

Mother Mae was honoured by the Mothers Club of Hatchet Bay in May 2008 as an outstanding
Christian mother. Similarly, she was again honoured by The Bethel Baptist Association at the
annual convention in May 2009. She was presented with a plaque for her faithful years of
dedicated contributions to the association. Unknowingly, this would be the last convention
that she would attend. She was pleased to have been given this recognition while still alive.
