Hugh Alfred "Old B" Miller Age 61 Years of Third Street Coconut Grove South,
Nassau, New Providence, The Bahamas transition from this life into eternity,
at his residence on Tuesday, August 24, 1999.
He was born at Dumfries Cat Island, The Bahamas on Wednesday, September 29, 1937.
He was educated at Our Lady's Catholic School and upon completion qualified to attend
St. Augustine's All Boys School, but due to economic circumstances was not able to take
advantage of this opportunity.
Being the industrious person that he was, he sought employment at the Johnson Brothers Company
in Chippingham, where he became very skilled at making turtle and conch shell jewelry.
He remained at this establishment for some thirty years, and his work became known
not only to the natives but also to tourist.
"Old B" as many knew him, then sought employment in the construction industry for several years as a mason.
Later, he joined a janitorial company that was responsible for cleaning the Crystal Palace Kitchen area,
this job he performed with dignity and pride.
During December of last year, "Old B" retired from the work force and continued to
display his entrepreneurial skills by selling cups, ice cream and sodas from his home
to his Third Street family. This he enjoyed and looked forward to quietly interacting
with his customers. He was an extremely shy and quiet man with very little words,
"Old B" believed that if he were not able to say something positive and encouraging,
then he would opt to say nothing at all.
He had a wonderful relationship with his family, and tried to speak with his children,
sisters and brothers as often as possible. He and his brother Edmund had an admirable
bond with each other, and "Old B" loved Edmund more than he will ever know.
The visits everyday by Edmund around 2:00pm; was appreciated and well received.
