Helena Mae Smith-Pinder

May 17, 1954 — October 28, 2012

Hatchet Bay

Helena Mae Smith-Pinder Age 58 Years of Queen's Highway, Hatchet Bay Eleuthera
prepared her final meal at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Sunday, October 28, 2012.

She was born at Hatchet Bay Eleuthera, on Monday, May 17, 1954. Helena attended the
Hatchet Bay All Aged School, now known as the P. A. Gibson Primary School, under the
renowned educator the late Rev. Dr. P. A. Gibson. She left school at an early age as most did at that time.

"Auntie or Ling" as she was affectionately called, bloomed into a fine young lady.
She assisted with the care of her younger siblings, Wanda and Collins. Being a devoted,
loving and caring person that she was, she never completed school placing the nurturing
and well being of her younger siblings at the forefront and making them her number one priority.

Helena later gained employment at Bailey's Taylor Shop on East Street, where she sewed uniforms
for the Officers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Being the hard working, industrious woman that
she was, she later moved to Grand Bahama where she was gainfully employed as a house keeper.
After moving back to Eleuthera she was employed at the Harrisville Company, until the time of its closure.
Further down, she was employed at the Cove Eleuthera where she had a love for cooking and served
in the capacity of cook, up until the time of her resignation. Her food was talked about throughout the
entire Bahamas, for truly she was gifted by God in that particular field.

Helena was blessed with seven beautiful children, one of whom predeceased her Marco Johnson.
She captured the eyes of a young man who decided that he would stop at nothing to make her his bride.
This persistence paid off when she later married John Mack Pinder on Saturday, May 15, 1999.
Helena loved her children and worked diligently to ensure that their needs as well as wants were met.

On the morning of Thursday, October 25, 2012 Helena was in her kitchen where she fell to the ground
and her eldest son Marvin was there. He and Jason took her to the local Clinic where it was discovered
that she had suffered a stroke. Due to inclement weather conditions brought on by the hurricane that
was travelling, she wasn't able to be airlifted to Nassau until Saturday, October, 27, 2012.
During her stay at Alice Town Clinic, the nurses there did their endevoured best to ensure that she was
well taken care of. Upon her arrival in Nassau, she was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital,
where the doctor informed the family members that she had taken a turn for the worse.
She is at rest with her mother, father, son, sisters and brother. "Oh what a reunion".
