Elma Margurite Johnson-Thompson Age 79 Years of #14 Dignity Gardens
completed her earthly service of this life at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Thursday, May 10, 2012.
She was born at Stanyard Creek Andros, The Bahamas on Tuesday, July 26, 1932.
Elma grew up along with her sister Vernell in Andros and at the age of 16,
Elma moved to Nassau and enrolled into the Nursing School Program.
At the age of 20, Elma married the love of her life a charming and handsome
24 year old chauffeur; Sidney Bernard Thompson Sr. The couple exchanged
their vows on 24 September 1952 at St Barnabas Anglican Church Nassau.
In search of a better way of life the couple relocated to Eleuthera
along with their five children namely Patricia, Anthony, Judith,
Whitfield and Sidney Jr. "Mum" or "Nurse T" as she was affectionately called,
took pride in caring for her family; her generous heart filled her home with love and fun.
Elma also touched the lives of many in her community by her witness of constant nurturing love and grace.
Whether it was the delivering of babies, visiting the sick and shut-in,
serving as secretary for the Savannah Sound Primary School PTA Committee,
serving with vigor in the Savannah Sound Gospel Chapel and St. Margaret's Anglican Church,
serving as Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star Lodge and United Order of Odd Fellows,
Elma's legacy will be carried in the hearts and lives she formed and touched by her love.
Elma's unwavering faith and love for the Lord can be heard through her many
prayers and constant singing. As a matter of fact at 7:15 pm on may 10, 2012,
15 minutes prior to her earthly departure, Elma recommitted her life to the Lord…she
thanked Him for His blood, dying on the cross and for forgiving her of her sins.
However, what "Mum" did best was loved everyone. She never said mean or jealous words about people.
No matter the circumstance, she never complained and hold steadfast to believe it will get better.
When asked about her ailments moments before passing "Mum" replied "every day is not going to be the same Joy."
Unselfish, reliable, committed, loving, quiet, meek, smart, Elma maintained a sweet and simple
demeanor that won the trusts and hearts of many. Elma's signature gift of humility and kindness
will never be forgotten. Our angel…a woman worthy of praise Elma leaves all her children, grand children,
family and friends with the knowledge that they were truly loved and they know that she loved the Lord.
