Dorrie Mae Charlton Age 62 Years of #12 Zarconia Close, off Prince Charles Drive,
passed from earth to glory at her brethren's residence, #3 Drumstick Close, Mall Road,
off Soldier Road West on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

Dorrie was born in the tranquil remote settlement of Abraham's Bay Mayaguana,
The Bahamas on Thursday, September 22, 1949. She was the fifth child and
was christened at the age of three. Her eldest sister Roslyn recalled the events
of that day and the excitement Dorrie showed while being dressed. Observing
her new outfit in fascination shouted, "Well dee-cup", and gazing at her new socks.

Dorrie began her education at Abraham's Bay All Age School where she excelled
in her class and at a young age became a school monitor, now known as teacher's aid.
Her tertiary education took her to San Salvador where she attended the Teacher's College
and received her teaching certificate. Upon completion of her studies, Dorrie moved to
New Providence to pursue a lifelong career in teaching. She remained in the field of
education for more than thirty-five (35) years, rendering her services to the public sector
and tutored in her free time. Over the years, she shared her knowledge with the children
from the schools of Abraham's Bay All Age, The Simpson C. Penn School for Boys,
The Willa Mae Pratt School for Girls, Columbus Primary, The Hospital School and
William Gordon Primary School, just to name a few.

Dorrie was a humanitarian who enjoyed counseling, motivating, encouraging
and also mentoring the youth. She had a word for everyone and never hesitated
to correct one if a word was pronounced incorrectly. Being in her presence,
it was necessary to speak proper grammar. Dorrie not only gave to education
and her community, she also assisted unselfishly to the less fortunate.
After accepting Christ, her generosity continued and this bred works of God.

The first life threatening condition came as an obstacle but not a defeat in 1996,
when our beloved Dorrie was diagnosed with breast cancer. After much consultation
and consideration, doctors advised Dorrie to undergo chemotherapy. Through prayer
and God's grace, Dorrie was healed of her illness. Unfortunately, the cancerous cell
reoccurred in 2003, leaving her with the only option to have surgery. Through what
may seem like a deadly chronic disease to everyone, Dorrie took it like a champ by
continuing her daily works and never showing a sign of fear or fret because she was
aware of the Word of God and His promises. The cancer has been in remission and
in 2011 it seemingly returned with avenges. A worrisome cough led her to seek professional
help and the news that was received no one was prepared for. Dorrie was diagnosed with
stage four cancer which was now bone deep. Even in the hospital at her weakest moments,
Dorrie's strength and strong personality prevailed which convinced others that she would
have pulled through yet again. Because Dorrie fought this illness so many times before,
she was determined that she would not let this unforgiving disease take her life,
so she made many trips which included Miami, Uchee Pines and Atlanta for a total of three months.
While in Miami she was hospitalized for most of her stay, but in Uchee Pines she was recreating
her lifestyle by performing and partaking in daily all natural regiments. Once this was done,
she traveled to Atlanta to continue her healthy lifestyle and shortly after, Dorrie returned to
Nassau four days before the 2012 general elections.

Dorrie's life's challenges, struggles and her conquering spirit bring to light Paul's word as
recorded in Philippians 1:20-21. "This is in keeping with my own eager desire and persistence
in expectation and hope, that I shall not disgrace myself nor be put to shame in anything;
But that with the utmost freedom of speech and unfailing courage, now and always heretofore,
Christ will be magnified and get glory and praise in this body of mine and be boldly exalted in
my person, weather through life or death. For me to live is Christ and to die is gain!"
