Carolyn Dorothea Correa-Dean

January 24, 1950 — November 14, 2023

Hatchet Bay

Carolyn Dorothea Correa-Dean Age: 73 Years of Hatchet Bay Eleuthera, The Bahamas
was called to a fuller life at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

Carolyn was born at Hatchet bay Eleuthera, The Bahamas on Tuesday, January 24, 1950.
Carolyn was the fourth surviving offspring of Hayward and Ruth Dean.

A Time To Learn
She was educated at Hatchet Bay All Age School, later renamed P.A Gibson Primary School.
She furthered her education through evening classes and correspondence courses with
Cambridge University in London. She was an avid reader and enjoyed learning about
anything that was new or interesting.

A Time To Grow
Carolyn was employed as a postal clerk in Hatchet Bay. Her penmanship and
meticulous
bookkeeping skills brought her much recognition and commendations.

Growing up in Hatchet Bay was an exciting and opportune time for her.
She was always involved in church and community affairs. She loved gardening
and used it as her past and therapeutic time. A time when she could commune with God.

Family, the elderly, and children meant so much to her. She would walk to the end of the earth
if necessary, to assist someone in need. Hers was a Ministry of Helps. You didn't have to ask for
her assistance with anything. Once she felt you needed help, she was quick to offer it.
She was generous and compassionate, caring, kindhearted, jovial, and a generally
giggly and bubbly soul.

However, it didn't take her long to set you straight if you offended her. She would say,
"I is tell ya in ya HAT! J and I finish with it…. I don't bother anyone so don't mess with me!!"
Nonetheless, she never held grudges, which was the beautiful part of her.

She was a stickler for neatness and organization, a perfectionist for that matter.
She would work hard to attend after her home and was marked with a true sense
of pride and gratefulness for everything she had been blessed with in her life.

The Entrepreneur
Carolyn began her entrepreneurial career selling clothing in a boutique in Hatchet Bay.
She was known for her charitable spirit. This unending generosity was passed down
from her own mother, as she would often give more than she would sell.

A Time To Marry
During the seventies she met and married Wilfredo "Freddie" Correa of New York.
That union was blessed with one beautiful and devoted daughter whom they named
Cheaka Madupa Odiz Correa, a son-in-law Tamal Burise, and two lovely granddaughters
Chloé and Juliana Burise. Her marriage required her migration to New Finland Canada
and later to the United States.

Life in the U.S.
Moving to the United States she would live in Norfolk, Virginia, for much of her time there.
She retired from Lake Taylor Hospital and later relocated to Smyrna, Georgia, with her
daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, beloved Chloé and Juliana Burise.
She never gave up on her entrepreneurial endeavors, selling Avon and most recently Mary Kay.
She enjoyed bringing out the beauty in others, inside-and-out.

Carolyn would decide to spend as much time as possible in Hatchet Bay, as this gave her the
opportunity to improve her health, give back to her community, and enjoy retirement.

Here she reconnected with her home church and occasionally joined the crocheting
club during her visits to Hatchet Bay.

A Time to Smile
"Smilie Kaye", as she was called, could find the positive in anything you could throw at her.
Her trust in God never wavered and allowed her to live life with a smile on her face even
through the worst periods.

The Encourager
If you were ever feeling discouraged, Carolyn would always have the words to remind you
to have faith in the Lord and would guide you to Him for all your needs. She always saw
the brighter side and would make sure you would see it too.

The Mother and Grandmother
Carolyn poured immeasurable love into her only child, Cheaka. She would say,
"It's me and you." She would work night and day to make sure her daughter was
provided for and set the foundation for her to achieve her goals. Once Carolyn
was blessed with her two twin granddaughters, it was "my three girls AND my son".
While she doted on her girls, she wanted her son-in-law, Tamal, to know that he
was her son, the only one. Some of her final words would be to Juliana and Chloé:
"Tell them Grandma is so very proud of them and loves them so much.
Keep safe and take care. God's blessings and favor are always on them… Tell my darling
girls Grandma loves them and misses them so much."

The Departure
On Sunday, November 12, 2023, while attending The Pastor's anniversary service
she would appear to be ill but would recover by the end of the service.

The following day several family and friends would try contacting her unsuccessfully.
Concerned, her sister, Mattie reached out to Rev. Johnson asking for his assistance in
checking on her. She was found incapacitated and airlifted to Princess Margaret Hospital
in New Providence where she transitioned to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
