Carlton Frederick "Rocky" Romer

August 6, 1929 — August 21, 2015

Tyler Street North, Chippingham

Carlon Frederick "Rocky" Romer Age 86 Years of #6 Tyler Street North, off Infant View Road
Chippingham, installed his final Pipes, Toilets and Bathtubs at his residence on Friday, August 21, 2015.

The sun seemed to shine brighter, the birds chipped louder, while smiles lit up the faces of Frederick Franville
and Delicia Naomi Romer on the birth of their son and only child on Tuesday, August 06, 1929 at Nassau,
New Providence, The Bahamas whom they named Carlon Frederick Romer. He was schooled at the
Western Senior School but left before completing, to learn a trade. At the age of 16, he worked with
John Granger learning the plumbing trade, eventually becoming a licensed plumber, one of best to be
found within the Bahamas. He passed on his love and skill of the trade to his sons Wilbert, Glen and Edward.

Although most people remember Carlon as short and 'stalky', he was once a slim sportsman.
For many years he played baseball with the CeeBees and held the record for the most stolen bases,
a record that still stands today. Therefore, you can imagine his joy when his sons Ellsworth, Glen and Edward
were actively involved in high school sports and did well. His love for sports now continues through his son
Edward, a physical education teacher.

It was important to Carlon to keep abreast of the current trends taking place throughout the Bahamas.
Over the years, he would be up and on the road at six in the morning looking for the newspaper,
which he read from front to back. There was nothing happening in the country that he was not aware of.
This put him in the position to lead out in many 'under the tree' dominoes' discussion. Because of his knowledge,
he became the human library for many, providing them with information and dates. More importantly,
it helped him in determining his political party of choice, the FNM, to whom he remained steadfast and
cast his vote for each election.

Carlon met and married a beautiful young lady by the name of Stella Smith from Burnt Ground,
Long Island, whom he married on April 21st, 1954. From this union came three lovely children:
Ellsworth (Ells), Edward (Bubby), and Virginia (Ginny).

"Rocky", as he was affectionately known was a caring, loving, and humble individual. Family was always
regarded as important to him. After the children were grown and on their own, he always wanted them
to come and have dinner every Saturday and Sunday.

Carlon was an active member of St. Mary's Anglican Church where he was MC under Father Holmes
and Father Brant. After a few years of serving at both St. Mary's and Holy Spirit, he decided to fully
attend Holy Spirit Anglican Church in Howard Street Chippingham, where he served under Father Burrows,
Father Rolle, Father Johnson, Father Moultrie and a few others. He gave over sixty years of dedicated service
on the altar, and received a plaque for his dedicated service on January 28th, 2004. In 1989 he was named
Father of Year by the Sunday School Department. For years, he was an active member of the Anglican Church
Men (ACM) and engaged his wife's cooking skills whenever the meeting was held at his home.

Carlon loved to go to church and he was indeed a devoted Anglican. He would often joke and say that he could
never lever leave the Anglican faith as it was the only church that would allow him to attend in shorts,
T-Shirt and loafers. Everyone who knew him knew it was his signature dress code. After Alzheimer kicked
in and he was unaware of which day of the week it was, he would get up dressing to go to church many week mornings.

Carlon was a person who enjoyed talking a lot and making jokes, always teasing his wife to her dislike.
When he was working, he was willing to give you anything you asked for. He was free handed. Retirement
time came along and Carlon enjoyed staying home and watching television; all the reruns of Texas Rangers,
In the Heat of the Night, Law and Order, and Matlock. After watching so many police and law programs,
he should have had gained knowledge to assist our Police Force and open his own law firm.

In July, he was admitted to hospital for the first time in his entire life, where he remained for two and a half weeks.
Upon his release, he was confined to bed as he could not walk and was attended to by his wife, son and grandson.
On the afternoon of Tuesday August 18th, when his eldest daughter was returning to Freeport, she called his name
and told him she was leaving.  She kissed him on his forehead and spoke her last words of, "Daddy, I love you.
It's okay to let go. You hear me?" He nodded his head affirming he had heard. Friday evening, three days later,
he peacefully left this earth.
