Audrey Laverne Pintard-Lockhart Age 78 Years of Soldier Road East
passed quietly from this life and into eternity at her residence on Sunday, October 16, 2011.
She was born at Duncan Town Ragged Island, The Bahamas on Friday, April 28, 1933
she was the third child. she was the third child. She was educated at the
Ragged Island All Age School. She grew up under the watchful eye of her
grandmother Angelina Wilson and her father Capt. John Pintard because
her mother died when she was eight years old.
This young girl was determined to succeed in life and after receiving her
Cambridge Certificate, she began her career as a Monitor in the school
system in Ragged Island.
At the age of nineteen she was joined in holy matrimony to Roy Lockhart
at Zion Baptist Church, East and Shirley Street, Nassau. This union was
blessed with nine children, four girls and five boys. The family relocated
to New Providence in 1966.
After the birth of her ninth child Audrey worked as a Food and Beverage
Cashier at the British Colonial Hotel for a period of nine years.
Audrey loved her church and her God and worked for about three years at
the Central Baptist Church in the Preschool and Nursery.
In 1978 Mom became a housewife who travelled constantly on the mailboat
with her husband from island to island. She went constantly to Cat Island with
Dad on the North Cat Island Special and was always referred to as the 'first mate'.
She was a model wife and mother who could be classified as a Proverbs 31 woman.
No one could compare to her 'Lock'. She rose early to ensure that after morning prayers,
there was either boiled or stew fish for breakfast. She ensured that her children were well
taken care of. This strong woman of God believed that family was an essential part of life
and with her the feelings of closeness was fostered.
The smell of freshly baked bread cooked food or cake was the aroma that assailed the
nostrils as you walked through the door daily. She spoilt the grandchildren and was always
in place to collect them from school. Many of them travelled with her during the holiday
breaks to the family islands and the United States of America. When the parents said no,
she said yes. Even though she loved her grandchildren, she demanded excellence in their
school work. She along with Dad was there to celebrate their successes, and to encourage
them in their failures. Positive Christian values were instilled in both children and grandchildren.
In times of trouble you could always call on dad and mom to intercede and agree on your behalf.
The Lockhart homestead on Soldier Road was always echoing with laughter. Every day we
came home to a hot meal and lots of love. Mom and Dad loved playing board games, especially
Backgammon, Checkers, Monopoly and Scrabble and all of the children and grandchildren joined in.
Mom had a generous giving spirit. Many of her nieces and nephews lived with her during their
high school years here in New Providence. We can all attest to the love that was showered upon
us all. She only had to know that a need existed and she filled it.
After their fiftieth wedding anniversary service in March 2002 and the death of our father
two weeks later on March 16th, 2002, she was never the same.
She involved herself deeply in the programmes of Abundant Life Church becoming involved
in the Ladies Fellowship, Prayer Meeting, and working with the Back to School activities and
the Welfare Department of the Church. She was honoured by her church during the Mother's
Day Service 2009.
About four years ago she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She was ably taken care of by
her children, grandchildren and care-giver Mrs. Joycelyn Bastian. Sister Patsy Knowles
came weekly to bring the Church Bulletin, Zachariah and Millett Dorsett came frequently
to encourage the family.
During recent years, Mom received continuous support from The Prayer Group at Abundant Life,
The Sons and Daughters of Zion under the leadership of Evangelist Cenamae Sweeting and the
Prayer visitation group from All Saints Anglican Church Women led by Sister Barbara Dorsett.
This spiritual support gave us the strength to go on.
Mom was monitored daily during the past four months by Dr. Rickey Davis, Sister Kim Davis
and Nurse Melonie Hall. Many of our friends became mom's children during this period.
We especially single out Ms. Dorothy Horton who became a dutiful daughter.
Ten weeks after the tragic death of her grandson Garvin, whom she loved dearly and who
spent quality time in assisting with her care Mom received the final command.
On Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 1:30 p.m., this bold courageous servant of God laid down
her war tools and moved peacefully from labour to reward.
