Archie Alfred Alexander Mackey

Deacon Archie Alfred Alexander "Uncle Al, Daddy Mackey" Mackey
Age 86 Years of Fifth Street, Coconut Grove, completed this walk of life at the
Princess Margaret Hospital on Saturday, December 18, 2004.


Deacon Mackey, was born at Port Nelson, Rum Cay,
Bahamas on Thursday, July 25, 1918 to the late George and
Sarah Mackey. He was the youngest of eight children,
all of whom have preceded him in death.


Uncle Al, as he was affectionately known, attended the
Rum Cay All-Age School. In 1935 he traveled to New Providence,
as in his words, (Seek a better way of life and to support his parents) .
In 1943 Uncle Al traveled to the United States, where he worked on the
contract. He later worked as a Butler in a private home, where he met his
lovely wife, Mary Ann Whylly.


Uncle Al, followed his family in the Baptist faith, worshipping
at St. John's Baptist in Rum Cay, at St. John's Native Baptist Cathedral in
New Providence, where he served as a Deacon. He was also and active
member, of the Rum Cay Burial and Development Association, where he
served as President. He was a member of St. John's Lodge No. 3 Commonwealth Masons.


He joined the Progressive Liberal Party during the fifties, attaining the
position of Stalwart Councilor. He struggled to ensure that every PLP
candidate, won the Grove Constituency. Namely the late, (James Shepherd,
Edmund Moxey, Sinclair Outten, Matthew Rose. And presently, Cynthia "Mother" Pratt).
He was also care taker, for the Community Center, Library and Clinic in the Grove.
Uncle Al and Mary Ann, were the pillars of strength in the Coconut Grove Community,
especially 5th Street, the families homestead.


The Radiance of this "Ruby of A Gem" will always glow in the hearts of his:
Wife: Mary Ann Mackey;
Two Daughters: Delores Pratt and Dr. Zelrona Mackey;
Two Sons: Allen James Sr. and Dr. Winston Phillips;
Six Grandchildren: Edward Pratt Jr., Demetria Coakley, Allen James Jr.,
Amanda, Jonathan and Jordan Phillips;

Great Grandchild: Jaylen Coakley;
Six Adopted Grandchildren: Police Inspector Marcel Hamilton,
Detective Corporal 1885 Wendy Russell, Doreth C. Dean-Campbell,
Wendell G. II, Dwaling and Pricsa Dean of the United States;

Eight Nephews: Edmund, Washington and Emmanuel "Manny" Mackey,
Charles and Franklyn Cambridge of Miami, Florida, Anthony Conyers,
George Proctor of Georgia and I. G. Stubbs;

Twelve Nieces: Gwendolyn Hall, Ena, Iris and Alma Mackey, Verny Gardiner,
Grace Stubbs, Valrie Fields, Mae Harris and Ronay Cambridge of Miami, Florida,
Rosemary Jones, Ellen Williams, Margaret Proctor of Georgia;

Twenty-Two: Grandnephews;
Twenty-One: Grandnieces;
Six God Children: Ramaine Ellis, Anthony Morley, Beverley Coleby,
Police Sergeant 291 Karen Nottage, Sarah Davis and Eullamae Butterfield;

Numerous Great Grand Nephews and Nieces: other loving family and friends.
