Ahab Cecil Morris Age 74 Years of #16 Bachelors Button Avenue; Garden Hills #1
completed his final building at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Tuesday, February 10, 2015.
He was born at Driggs Hill South Andros, The Bahamas on Friday, February 23, 1940.
Ahab attended the all age school (a school house built by his great-grandfather James Forbes)
in the settlement until the age of fourteen. Soon after, he was sent to Nassau to learn a
trade in masonry and carpentry from his Uncle David Baker and Grand-uncle Percy Burnside.
Ahab along with his Uncles was instrumental in the construction of many of the homes
and stone walls on the Eastern Road and Centerville.
Although Ahab was now a skilled Manson, he decided in late 1957 early 1958,
to join a crew of young men from Driggs Hill on a trip to the 'States' to seek
employment on the 'Contract' (an agreement made between the British and
United States Governments to employ Bahamians in the U.S.). This decision
to work on the 'Contract' was made due to the more lucrative earnings;
but when the 'Contract' ended in 1960, Ahab returned home and continued
earning a living from his masonry skills.
After meeting the lovely Geneva Flowers, his faithful companion for over 50 years,
they were married on May 27th, 1964 this union resulted in one daughter and six sons.
To advance his knowledge and to become one of the best in his trade,
Ahab began studies in engineering and draftsman through a corresponding
course offered by Lasell College between the years 1969 through 1974,
and upon his completion, earned a degree in engineering.
Ahab was also well versed in theology, from 1960 to the time of his death.
He studied with the world's oldest religious organization. He gained a comprehensive
knowledge of every established religion from Hinduism, Muslim, Gnosticism,
Zoroastrianism, to Judaism. His thirst for information never ending, he would
read copies of the daily newspapers every day to ensure that he is kept abreast
of what's going on in his country.
